Vocal String Polyps

How Vocal cord polyps are treated

Vocal cord polyps are treated with surgery.

The operation is performed with Microsurgery tools so that the healthy tissues are not injured.

What are vocal cord polyps?

Among the abnormalities of the larynx that need monitoring are polyps of the vocal cords.

Vocal cord polyps are classified into:

  • Base square polyps, and in
  • Polyps that are pedunculated.

Polyps usually appear on the glottis of one or both vocal cords and their most common symptom is the observation of a slight hoarseness and more rarely symptoms from the respiratory tract (when the location of the polyp changes).

How they are created:

The causes of vocal cord polyps vary.

Their formation is probably due to:

  • Residual swelling from an earlier infection,
  • Acute vocal injury or long-term vocal abuse,
  • Chronic gastroesophageal reflux,
  • Damage due to chronic indwelling of endotracheal tubes
  • Changes in vocal habits

Diagnosis:

The diagnosis is made by the method of laryngoscopy.
